Activities of the Research Department

The Research Department of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Department of the Charité meets yearly on a research retreat and uses the opportunity in a secluded environment to exchange ideas, discuss science and strengthen the Team spirit. Further, we routinely take part in scientific events in order to inform the interested public about our reserach topics and how we want to optimize therapy for children with cancer.

Research Department Retreat - Brandenburg an der Havel in June 2019

After a 4-year break due to Corona, the third retreat of the Pediatric Oncology Research Department took place in Berlin-Schmöckwitz at the Waldhotel am See from June 9-10, 2022.

With a total of 58 participants, we were once again able to organize a varied, very research-intensive program in one and a half days. This year, in addition to plenary lectures, longer lectures and 2-3 minute flash talks were presented by the individual working groups. Prizes were again awarded for the best talks.

During the breaks and the dinner there was a stimulating exchange of ideas and the formation of new collaborations within the department. In addition, this time there was the opportunity to "pester" our director Prof. Eggert for 1.5 hours with questions about her life, career and other things during a pleasant chat by the lake, which was especially well received by the younger researchers.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the team of the Waldhotel am See for their great job and hospitality!

Research Department Retreat - Brandenburg an der Havel in June 2019

From 19.06.-21.06.2019 the second retreat of the Pediatric Oncology Research Department took place in Brandenburg an der Havel in Schloss Plaue.

With a total of 63 participants, we were able to create a varied program in two and a half days. This time we tried a new concept: Each working group was allowed to give a presentation on a topic of their choice in a 15-minute flagship talk. Furthermore, the working groups used the format of the so-called Flash Talks to present their further research topics in short and crisp talks (between 1 and 5 minutes in length) and to put them up for discussion. This resulted in a stimulating exchange of ideas and the formation of new collaborations within the department.

The prizes for the best talks this year went to the participants from the Künkele and Henssen WGs; Annika Winkler was awarded the special prize of Best Performer and Colleague. Congratulations to all award winners!

We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the team of Schloss Plaue for their great job and hospitality and for their donation to our research!

Research Department Retreat - Woltersdorf an der Schleuse in June 2017

The first annual retreat of our research department was held in Woltersdorf an der Schleuse from June 21 - June 22, 2017.
We spend one and a half days filled with interesting talks, inspiring discussions, team activities ("Woltersdorfer Schnitzeljagd"), a barbecue evening and a lot of sunshine.

The research department at the Long Night of the Sciences on June 24, 2017

On June 24, 2017, our research department took part in the yearly Berlin-wide scientific event "Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften".

In scientific posters and talks we presented our reseach to the interested public, discussed with parents and their children about what we are working on, the challenges of cancer research in general and in particular about questions regarding patient data manegement now and in the future.
